Ustad Zakir Hussain was universally recognized as the greatest tabla player of his era and one of the most influential percussionists in world music. Son and disciple of the legendary Ustad Alla Rakha of the Punjab gharana, he began performing publicly at age seven and quickly established himself as a prodigy of extraordinary rhythmic intelligence.
