Biography
Ustad Shahid Parvez is widely regarded as one of the finest sitarists performing today, a modern master of the Etawah (Imdadkhani) gharana carrying forward the gayaki ang tradition. Son of Ustad Aziz Khan, he represents the continuation of the tradition of Imdad Khan, Enayat Khan, and Vilayat Khan. His playing combines vocal-like phrasing and emotional subtlety with virtuosity allowing passages of breathtaking speed without sacrificing depth. His recordings of Yaman, Bageshree, Bihag, Darbari Kanada, and Puriya Dhanashree are benchmark performances. He has been honored with the Padma Shri and performs at major festivals worldwide.
